Disaster relief: digital assistant launched to inform affected residents

It accepts written and spoken questions in Greek and English. It provides general information without examining individual applications or approving aid.

A new information service for people seeking state aid after natural disasters has been launched by the Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, according to its announcement of 3 November 2026. The State Aid Digital Assistant is available through the ministry’s official website.

What residents can ask

The service provides general, non-personalised information on financial assistance, support measures for affected residents and the procedures for obtaining them. It can be used on a phone or computer, with written or spoken questions in Greek and English. Within the same session it takes earlier questions into account and allows users to rate answers.

The ministry says access requires neither identification nor submission of personal data, because the assistant does not examine individual requests. A conversation with it is not a procedure for submitting a compensation application.

The limits of an answer

The ministry itself clarifies that artificial intelligence cannot guarantee the absolute accuracy, completeness or adequacy of every answer. The information does not constitute an official administrative act and does not replace the competent authorities or prescribed procedures.

For users, this means the information may help identify a relevant measure, but eligibility, supporting documents and deadlines need to be checked against the corresponding official act and service. The announcement concerns the launch of an information service; it does not announce a new universal benefit, compensation amount or shared deadline for all disaster victims.

The ministry says the assistant is hosted in the government cloud and, where technically possible, refers users to the official sources behind its answers. The authority’s assessments of service quality are its own statements rather than an independent evaluation of accuracy.
