Stabilisation and restoration of the Phocian wall at Thermopylae are being advanced by the Culture Ministry through the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phthiotis, according to its new official announcement on 2 November.

What the studies provide for

The approved studies include masonry restoration and repositioning available original material in documented locations. The aims are stability and clearer legibility of the monument, which the ministry describes as difficult to identify and inaccessible to visitors.

Visitor access is a further step

Connections with Kolonos and other points of interest form part of the wider Thermopylae presentation plan. No completion or opening date is announced; the plan does not yet amount to delivery of a new visitor route.
