Monfils appointed France’s new Davis Cup captain
The French federation named Paul-Henri Mathieu’s successor. Gilles Simon and Richard Gasquet will support the new captain.

Gaël Monfils has been appointed France’s Davis Cup captain, the French Tennis Federation announced on 7 November 2026. Reuters also reported the appointment.
He succeeds Paul-Henri Mathieu, who led the team for the past three years. The federation links its choice to Monfils’ experience from 22 years on the professional circuit.
Support from Simon and Gasquet
The FFT says the new captain will receive support from its teams, particularly Gilles Simon and Richard Gasquet. It does not specify separate formal positions for the two former internationals.
Monfils set out an ambition to build a collective project and momentum to compete for titles. That is the new captain’s stated objective; the confirmed decision announced today is his appointment.
