Fitch keeps Greece at BBB with a stable outlook

The agency affirmed Greece’s investment-grade rating. Falling debt supports the rating, while the debt level and external deficit remain weaknesses.

Fitch Ratings affirmed Greece’s long-term sovereign rating at BBB with a stable outlook on 6 November 2026. Greece remains investment grade with Fitch. The agency’s threshold is BBB−, according to Greece’s Public Debt Management Agency.

Fitch cited the falling debt-to-GDP ratio, fiscal surpluses and the long average maturity of the debt, which reduces immediate refinancing needs. The agency projects debt to fall to 124.6% of GDP in 2028 from 146.1% in 2025 and forecasts average growth of 2.0% in 2026–2028.

High outstanding debt and the current account deficit remain constraints. The 2028 figure and the growth figures are Fitch forecasts.
