Hellenic Mediterranean University: €5.5m call for upgrades in Heraklion and Rethymno
The call covers safety checks, renovation of building K12 and upgrades at Perivolia. Individual projects will be approved after assessment.

Greece’s Education Ministry announced a €5.5 million call on 6 November for upgrades at the Hellenic Mediterranean University. It allows the university to submit proposals under the 2026–2030 Sectoral Development Programme. Funding for each project will be finalised after assessment and a formal approval decision.
What the call covers
- Studies and services to assess building condition and safety.
- Extensive renovation of building K12 in Heraklion.
- Major maintenance and upgrades to buildings and electromechanical systems at Perivolia, Rethymno.
The ministry lists fire safety, seismic adequacy where required, energy efficiency and accessibility as priorities. The call is separate from the €6 million provided for maintenance and smaller repairs in 2026–2030, which the university confirmed in October.
Proposals are submitted online through the National Development Programme information system by 29 February 2028, according to the announcement. Expenditure is eligible through 31 December 2030. These dates concern submissions and funding; the announcement gives no start date for construction.
