DOE: new work-stoppage programme from 2 to 30 November
The 30 October decisions concern evaluation and compulsory overtime. They do not establish a uniform daily closure of schools.

Updated 02.11.2026 · 21:08, Athens time — What changed
A new mobilisation period, 2 through 30 November 2026 inclusive, is covered by DOE decisions 135 and 136, dated 30 October. The original notices confirm the programme reported by ERT today. The October period is retained below as history.
Two separate decisions
On evaluation, decision 135 declares daily one-hour stoppages throughout the school programme that teachers may use. The federation asks local associations to decide additional hours where considered necessary.
On compulsory overtime, decision 136 declares nationwide stoppages during the hours when such overtime is assigned, depending on each teacher’s timetable. The stated purpose of union coverage is attributed to DOE.
What parents need
The decisions concern primary-education teachers’ mobilisation and do not generally suspend operations at primary schools or kindergartens. The effect on each class depends on participation and timetables; parents need information from their own school. The notices establish neither a participation rate nor a uniform time for pupils to leave.
Previous updates — history
Two parallel decisions for work stoppages until Friday 30 October 2026 were announced by the Greek Primary Teachers’ Federation (DOE), with the notices published on 2 October. They concern primary-education teachers.
Compulsory overtime
The first decision declares continuous nationwide stoppages from 1 to 30 October for hours in which compulsory overtime is assigned. The federation describes their purpose as union coverage for participating teachers.
One hour over evaluation
The second declares daily one-hour stoppages throughout the school programme for the same period. DOE links them to opposition to teacher evaluation under Law 4823/2021 and ministerial decision 9950/GD5.
Schools and parents
These are union decisions, rather than a general suspension of school operations. Their effect on each class’s timetable depends on teacher participation and the circumstances in which the stoppage is used. Parents need to follow their own school’s information. The decisions do not mean that all primary schools and kindergartens close daily or that a single nationwide stopping time applies.
