Arta: €665,000 funding call for Arachthos flood protection studies

The study covers about 25 kilometres of river channel down to the Ambracian Gulf. The call funds the completion of studies ahead of any construction.

A call to complete flood protection studies along the Arachthos, from Arta to the Ambracian Gulf, opened on 4 November. The decision, issued on 3 November as call 21085, provides for €665,000 in co-financed public expenditure under the Environment and Climate Change programme.

What the studies will examine

The second phase covers designs for managing about 25 kilometres of river channel. It also examines diverting some of the flow where the channel runs through or near Arta, with the aim of protecting the city, the surrounding area and the historic bridge.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s Flood Protection and Land Reclamation Directorate can submit a proposal through the Integrated Information System by 31 December 2026. The call concerns the study stage; it neither awards a construction contract nor sets a date for work to start.
