Find stable support

Place your hands on the wall. Step one foot forward with the knee slightly bent and the other back with the knee straight.

The movement

Lean slightly forward, keeping the rear heel on the ground. Feel a gentle calf stretch without pain. NHS recommends holding for 15–20 seconds and changing sides. Do not bounce.

Choose your range

You do not need to match the photograph. Take a smaller step if more comfortable. For an injury, condition or pregnancy, seek professional guidance. Stop if pain or dizziness occurs.
