The weight of goods carried by trucks registered in Greece fell 13.7% in 2025 compared with 2024, according to ELSTAT’s annual survey released on 23 October 2026. It totalled 223,520.3 thousand tonnes, or about 223.52 million tonnes, compared with 258,995.0 thousand in 2024.
Cargo weight and transport performance
Total transport performance was 20,214,251.1 thousand tonne-kilometres, down 2.0%. A tonne-kilometre combines cargo weight with distance travelled, so its percentage change differs from that of tonnes.
- Own-account trucks: 115,424.9 thousand tonnes, down 9.9%. Transport performance fell 12.6%.
- Hire-or-reward trucks: 108,095.4 thousand tonnes, down 17.4%. Transport performance rose 0.7%.
Survey scope
The figures concern 2025, although published now, and vehicles registered in Greece. They do not measure 2026 or cover every foreign-registered truck using Greek roads.
For domestic transport, by the weight of goods loaded and unloaded, Attica ranks first, followed by Central Macedonia and Thessaly. For international transport by vehicles covered by the survey, Attica also leads, followed by Central Macedonia and Western Greece.
