Preliminary studies have been completed for the restoration and reuse of Complex 2 at the former FIX Brewery in western Thessaloniki, Greece's Culture Ministry announced on 5 October 2026. This is a preparatory stage, not the start of construction work.

What has been completed

The package covers preliminary architectural, structural and electromechanical studies, along with plans for conserving historic materials and industrial equipment. The DIMAND group donated the studies.

The design aims to preserve the historic shell and surviving equipment while adding climate control, electrical systems, fire protection and accessibility. The official announcement says new interventions are intended to remain as limited as possible.

Planned uses

The complex is intended to house MOMus – Museum of Contemporary Art functions, including the permanent Costakis Collection display, along with facilities for the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki.

Scale and purchase

The property covers a site of about 6,900 square metres and includes listed buildings with a total area of 7,715.90 square metres. The Culture Ministry acquired it in 2025 for €8.2 million.

What has not yet been announced

The announcement gives no construction start date, works budget or timetable for opening the new facilities. Completion of the preliminary studies is a necessary step before further design and administrative procedures, but it does not mean restoration has been completed.
