The Union of Contract Employees of the Greek Asylum Service has announced a work stoppage on Thursday 22 October 2026, from 11:00 until the end of the working day. The original press release is dated 19 October and was made available in an ERT report on 20 October.

Protest at noon

The union schedules a protest at 12:00 at the Ministry of Migration and Asylum in Attica and at local Asylum Service offices in other cities. It also reports a scheduled meeting with the minister that day. The meeting is announced, not already held.

The workers’ demand

The statement concerns the employment prospects of contract staff at the Asylum Service and the Appeals Authority. The union says they cover permanent, ongoing needs and calls for specific policy initiatives. Criticism of the political leadership and the account of employment conditions are attributed to the union; they are not presented as an independent finding.

The same release reports participation by the association of permanent colleagues. This does not establish universal participation by all staff or a general closure of every office.

People with appointments

Anyone with a scheduled appointment should check with the responsible office for possible changes. The union announcement does not provide for general appointment cancellations or automatic extensions of administrative deadlines. Times are Greek local time.
