Two Ministry of National Defence bills were tabled in Parliament on 30 October 2026. They seek ratification of technical arrangements with Germany on academic research and Italy on pilot training.

Research and military training

The German arrangement, signed in Athens on 22 March 2023, links Greece’s National Defence College with the Bundeswehr University Munich. The tabled text covers academic exchanges, research cooperation and one to three places annually for senior German officers at the College’s International Senior Course.

The Italian arrangement was signed on 14 May 2025. Its accompanying impact assessment envisages basic flight training for Italian pilots in Greece using T-6A aircraft and advanced training for Greek pilots in Italy using FT-339C/T-345 aircraft. The institutions concerned include the 120 Air Training Wing in Kalamata and the 61st Wing in Galatina.

Legislative stage

Both parliamentary records show the stage as “Tabled” and identify the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs as responsible. They do not yet establish committee approval or passage by the plenary.

The bills distinguish commencement of the future laws, upon Government Gazette publication, from entry into force of each arrangement under its own conditions. The provisions are reported as proposals, not laws already in force.
