A strong thunderstorm hit Volos on the afternoon of Sunday, 11 October, shortly after 16:00. Heavy rain was accompanied by hail, thunder and intense lightning, according to ERT Volos and corroborating local reports.

Where water accumulated

Large amounts of water were reported at several points on the road network, including the Palaia and Old Port areas, and at the junctions of Analipseos and Pagason streets and Grigoriou Lampraki and Melounas streets. Images showed difficult driving conditions while the storm was under way.

Local outlets reported a noticeable rise in the level of the Krafsidonas stream. That describes the observed situation after the downpour; it is not, by itself, an official announcement that the stream overflowed.

What is confirmed so far

The thunderstorm, hail and road-water accumulation are corroborated by multiple sources. By the time of this update, no official toll of damage or injuries had been announced. No new active 112 message or Hellenic National Meteorological Service emergency bulletin with a specific validity period for Volos was found.

The development is therefore being reported as a verified local event, not as an official Alert. Drivers should not attempt to cross roads carrying fast-moving or standing water and should follow any later instructions from traffic police, the Fire Service and Civil Protection.
