Berlin: Greens approve coalition talks with the Left Party and SPD

Forty-three of 45 delegates voted in favour. The decision concerns state-level negotiations, not formation of a federal government.

Berlin's Greens authorised coalition negotiations with the Left Party and the SPD on 19 October 2026, according to the party's official announcement about its regional committee vote.

Forty-three of 45 delegates, or 95.6%, voted in favour. The decision is based on the joint exploratory paper and also establishes the Greens' main negotiating team.

Another stage, not a final agreement

The vote confirms the Greens' mandate to enter negotiations. It is not a completed coalition agreement, election of a new leader or assumption of government office.

This development concerns the state of Berlin, not Germany's federal government. The newer party statement adds a specific voting result to the talks reported by ERTnews, without prejudging their outcome.
