Updated 20.10.2026 · 00:09, Athens time — What changed:

A newer Balearic Government announcement dated 19 October 2026 maintains the red IG-2 level under the Meteobal plan and SO-2 operational status under the Inunbal plan in Ibiza, Formentera and Mallorca. Menorca remains at orange IG-1. The authority warns that instability will continue into Tuesday 20 October, without specifying an end time.

The new guidance changes the timeframe of the previous report. Civil-protection authorities stress that their alert levels are not the same as AEMET's weather-warning colours: saturated ground and existing flood risk, particularly in Ibiza and Formentera, also matter. They ask the public not to lower their guard until the episode ends.

The announcement's tally is 201 incidents recorded by 12:00 local time on 19 October: 113 in Ibiza, 59 in Formentera, 27 in Mallorca and 2 in Menorca. This is not presented as a current running total.

Schools require a separate decision

The previously announced suspension of lessons specifically covered 19 October on three islands, excluding Menorca. Continuation of the alert does not by itself constitute a new school-closure decision for 20 October. No such newer school decision has been verified here; families should check education-authority and school updates.

Earlier report — history

Lessons and face-to-face teaching are suspended at all education centres in Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera on Monday 19 October 2026, under a decision announced on 18 October by the Balearic Government’s Department of Education and Universities.

The measure follows guidance from the Directorate-General for Emergencies and Interior, because of forecast heavy rain and the flood risk associated with DANA Adam.

The exception and information for families

In Menorca, lessons are expected to run normally under the current forecast. The decision specifically concerns 19 October and does not automatically extend to later days.

The government says school management teams, families and pupils were informed through the GESTIB platform and mobile messages. It asks them to follow schools’ and responsible authorities’ announcements for any changes.

The official weather bulletin

Spain’s meteorological agency AEMET, in special bulletin 37/2026 dated 18 October, places the episode of heavy and persistent rain over the mainland Mediterranean area and the Balearic Islands, lasting through Monday 19 October.

It warns of local flooding and sudden rises in streams, while noting uncertainty over the precise distribution of the weather. A forecast risk is not confirmation of flooding in every area or a general travel ban across Spain.
