The Security Council adopted resolution 2835 on 30 October 2026, renewing the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, UNSMIL, for twelve months. The UK delegation’s official explanation of vote confirms the adoption and duration. ERT identifies the new end date as 31 October 2027.

Political process and institutional reunification

In her statement, UK Permanent Representative Sarah MacIntosh links the renewal to continued work on Special Representative Hanna Tetteh’s roadmap. She describes support for reunifying Libyan institutions, establishing a single executive authority and women’s participation in the political process.

The reference to elections within 24 months concerns commitments under the political process cited in the UK statement. It does not announce a specific election day or confirm that a unified government has already been formed.
