Today's restriction — 22.10.2026 · 07:20

The Traffic Police decision covers Thursday 22 October, 07:30–14:00: all-vehicle traffic is suspended in both directions on the Thessaloniki–Nea Moudania road from the new Thermi overpass at Profiti Ilia road to the Rysio overpass.

Towards Moudania, the diversion uses Profiti Ilia, the Thessaloniki–Nea Michaniona provincial road and Neo Rysio, with the reverse route towards Thessaloniki. The end time is the one announced in the decision; drivers should follow on-site Traffic Police instructions.

Full programme from the 19 October announcement

On 19 October 2026, Greek Police announced traffic arrangements for the celebrations of Saint Demetrius and the 28 October national anniversary. These measures begin on 22 October; they are not a closure in force today. The notice states that the Traffic Police have issued a relevant decision.

22 October: Thessaloniki–Nea Moudania road

On Thursday, 07:30–14:00, both directions close between the new Thermi overpass (Profiti Ilia road) and the Rysio overpass for the motorised parade rehearsal. Diversions run via Profiti Ilia, the Thessaloniki–Nea Michaniona provincial road and Neo Rysio, with the reverse route towards Thessaloniki.

25 and 26 October: around Saint Demetrius

On Sunday 25 October, stopping and parking are prohibited 05:00–13:30 on Agiou Dimitriou (Proxenon–Platonos), Venizelou (Agiou Dimitriou–Egnatia), Egnatia (Venizelou–Agias Sofias) and Agias Sofias (Egnatia–Agiou Dimitriou). Traffic stops 10:30–13:30 along the procession route, except that the affected Agiou Dimitriou section runs from Venizelou to Platonos.

On Monday 26 October, stopping and parking are prohibited 05:00–13:30 on sections of Agiou Dimitriou, Kassandrou, Makedonikis Amynis and Aristotelous, and throughout Selefkou. Traffic closes 10:30–13:30 on Agiou Dimitriou between Lagkada and Agiou Nikolaou.

27 October: school parade

From 10:30 until the events end, closures cover Tsimiski between CHANTH Square and Ionos Dragoumi, Pavlou Mela between White Tower Square and Tsimiski, and the streets crossing those sections.

28 October: restrictions before the 11:00 parade

Stopping and parking restrictions start at 03:00 on roads in the parade zone. From 05:00, closures cover Megalou Alexandrou Avenue, Georgiou Papandreou between Megalou Alexandrou and Mitropolitou Kydonion, and all of 30is Oktovriou. From 07:00, closures gradually extend to connecting roads between Vasilissis Olgas and the waterfront, and designated sections of Stratigou Kakavou, Pavlou Mela, Soulioti and Ethnikis Amynis. These restrictions last until the parade ends, not until a specified announced hour.

Parking restrictions begin earlier in some locations

On Agias Triados, between Megalou Alexandrou and Vasileos Georgiou, the stopping and parking ban runs from 14:00 on 25 October to 15:00 on 28 October. Additional roads in the parade area and the car park behind the official stand are reserved from 14:00 on 27 October until the parade ends.

This is a summary of the main routes, not an exhaustive list of every parking-restriction section. Police ask drivers to remove vehicles from affected roads and may close surrounding roads as conditions require. Drivers should follow on-site signs and Traffic Police instructions.
