A 54-year-old woman was arrested for a breach of animal-welfare legislation, according to a Hellenic Police announcement on 23 October 2026, following an inspection of a home and ten outdoor premises she managed in the Thermi area.

Police report finding 212 animals: 127 dogs, 73 cats and 12 goats. According to the police description, they were in dirty and polluted premises without comfortable, hygienic and suitable shelter.

The inspection and next steps

The inspection took place as part of an urgent preliminary inquiry, in the presence of a judicial-authority representative. It involved officers from Thermi Police Station, staff from the Thessaloniki Metropolitan Unit’s Veterinary Directorate and the Public Health Directorate, and Thermi Municipal Police.

The release says the arrested woman will be brought before the competent prosecutor. Veterinary services will cross-check animal identification details against the National Companion Animal Register, followed by further administrative action by police.

This is a police investigation and arrest, rather than a conviction. The release announces no final court judgment and does not specify that all the animals have been transferred elsewhere.
