Walking: exercise that fits into everyday life
A short walk can be the starting point for more movement, with time increased gradually.

Walking can become part of getting around your neighbourhood without a gym subscription. Choose an easy route you can repeat rather than beginning with a demanding target.
The World Health Organization recommends 150–300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week for adults. These minutes need not come from a single workout: shorter walks can contribute to the weekly total.
The NHS describes brisk walking as a pace at which you can talk but find singing difficult. If you have been inactive for some time, increase the distance gradually.
Comfortable shoes and a safe route make starting simpler. At first, keep a small record of the days you walked; consistency is a more useful target than comparing yourself with others.
