Skiathos Transports announced that no scheduled bus service will operate on Wednesday 14 October 2026. The suspension is confirmed on the operator’s official website.

In an ERT Volos morning update, deputy mayor for cleaning services Mr Giannitsis reported fallen trees and road disruptions. Municipal crews were removing trees and restoring access. He said no threat to human life had been reported, but the extent of damage to businesses and homes had not yet been established.

ERT reports that bus services are scheduled to resume on Thursday 15 October; this is a plan, not a completed resumption. Passengers should check the latest announcement before travelling.

Earlier report — 14 October, 06:02

A 112 emergency alert was sent to residents and visitors on Skiathos after midnight on 14 October 2026, telling them to restrict travel to what was strictly necessary and to follow instructions from the authorities.

Flooding in the town

ERT News reported water on the central pedestrian street and nearby roads. Skiathos Mayor Thodoris Tzoumas said two parked vehicles had been swept away and that damage had been recorded at homes, businesses and shops.

Fire Service, police and municipal crews were operating at several locations. At the time of this update, no comprehensive official damage assessment or report of injuries had been published.

Schools closed

Schools on Skiathos will remain closed today, Wednesday 14 October, according to the mayor's update carried by ERT. The closure is a precaution while the severe weather continues.

What remains pending

The mayor said the municipality would request that Skiathos be declared in a state of emergency. This is an intention to submit a request, not, at this stage, a published declaration decision.

Civil Protection had warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Sporades and gale-force winds in the Aegean. Residents should follow only the latest instructions from 112 and the local authorities.
