Serbia revokes ALTA Banka’s licence: what the central bank says about deposits
NBS cites deterioration in the bank’s financial condition. The Deposit Insurance Agency is to enable payments of insured amounts within seven business days.

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) has announced that its Executive Board decided to revoke the operating licence of ALTA Banka a.d. Beograd. The original announcement is dated 30 October 2026; ERTnews reported the development on 31 October.
NBS says supervisory checks aimed at improving liquidity preceded the decision. In its assessment, the bank’s financial condition had deteriorated significantly and could worsen further, threatening depositors’ interests.
The process for depositors
The announcement says the Deposit Insurance Agency will enable payments of insured amounts and access to funds for depositors within seven business days, under the deposit insurance law. This concerns insured amounts; it is not a promise of immediate repayment of every deposit in full.
The agency is to be appointed bankruptcy administrator by a court decision. The announcement does not specify a payment date, a payout bank or instructions for submitting a claim. Those details remain to be provided by the responsible authorities.
