Repair rather than replace: understanding the EU framework

The directive covers specific products, not free repairs for every appliance.

EU repair rules aim to extend product life. Directive 2024/1799 required national transposition and application by 31 July 2026.

Scope matters

The obligation concerns Annex II product categories subject to EU repairability requirements, including certain fridges and phones. The Commission describes repair within a reasonable time and price, not a universal free service.

Ask for a written quote and check guarantees, parts and terms. Greek application depends on national provisions. The European repairer platform is planned for January 2028, rather than already available.
