Sappho stream: €18.52 million contract signed, excluding VAT
4,160 metres of flood works in northern Athens; signing does not mean protection is complete.
Maroussi municipality announced the Sappho stream contract signing on 16 October. The stated budget is €18.52 million excluding VAT, funded through Environment and Climate Change 2021–2027.
Works cover 4,160 metres from the Maroussi–Kifisia boundary to the Attiki Odos culvert. A 1,180-metre section retains its natural bed with a piled retaining wall. Supporting works cover retaining structures, drainage and utility networks.
The development is a signed contract, not completed works. No specific completion date or traffic restrictions are announced. The project does not establish that current flood risks have ended.
