What changed — 16.10.2026 · 16:18 Greek time

Eurostat published full harmonised inflation data for September on 16 October 2026. The annual rates of 5.1% in Greece and 3.8% in the euro area, first reported as flash estimates on 2 October, are confirmed.

Greece’s monthly change is now 1.9%, rather than the initial 1.8%. For euro-area components, annual energy inflation is revised to 18.9% from 18.8%, and food, alcohol and tobacco to 1.3% from 1.4%. The full figures replace those preliminary values in this article.

The September picture

Greece’s annual rate rose from 3.7% in August to 5.1%. The euro-area rate increased from 3.2% to 3.8%, with a monthly change of 0.6%. Annual inflation across the EU was also 3.8%.

Euro-area services inflation was 3.2%, and non-energy industrial goods inflation 1.1%. The index excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco stood at 2.5%.

Energy contributed 1.71 percentage points to euro-area annual inflation, and services 1.52 points. A contribution in percentage points is not the same measure as a category’s annual price-increase rate.

Reading the measures

Annual inflation compares prices with the same month a year earlier; monthly inflation compares them with the preceding month. The harmonised index supports comparisons between countries and does not mean every product or household faces the same cost increase.
