Jepchirchir: AIU provisional suspension over EPO finding
The decision concerns an out-of-competition sample collected in Kenya. Proceedings remain open, with no final sanction announced.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on 23 October 2026 that it had provisionally suspended Peres Jepchirchir, the reigning world marathon champion and former Olympic champion.
In its official post, the AIU attributes the decision to an adverse analytical finding for EPO in an out-of-competition sample collected in Kenya before her Sydney Marathon victory. The Sydney organisers confirm the provisional suspension in their own statement and specify that the race took place on 30 August 2026.
Proceedings have yet to conclude
The suspension is provisional. The organisers recognise the athlete’s right to due process and say they will make no further comment until it concludes. The announcements reviewed do not constitute a final ruling or announce a final ban length or the removal of titles.
In a second post, the AIU lists her marathon victories in New York in 2021, Boston in 2022, London in 2024 and Sydney in 2026.
