World Bank targets fivefold growth in its critical-minerals business

Banga announced a five-year target and initial country compacts. The 20 potential partners are not 20 signed agreements.

The World Bank aims to increase its critical-minerals business fivefold over five years, according to President Ajay Banga’s official speech of 16 October 2026 at the annual meetings in Bangkok.

The text says the first country compacts with other multilateral development banks were launched this week. The aim is to develop local industries and retain more jobs and added value within the countries themselves.

Banga identifies 20 countries as potential partners. He does not say 20 agreements have already been signed. The fivefold increase is a target, not financing already delivered; the speech announces no application call for Greek businesses.
