Oman: drone attack on tanker prompts crew evacuation operation at Sohar
UKMTO reported a drone attack on a tanker at Sohar anchorage. Local authorities are assisting with an evacuation, while damage and possible environmental effects remain unclear.

A tanker at Sohar anchorage in Oman was attacked by an unmanned aircraft, according to update 001 to Warning 165-26 issued by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations service (UKMTO).
Local authorities are at the scene and are assisting with the evacuation of the crew. The notice was released on the evening of Sunday 11 October and reported in Greece after midnight on Monday 12 October 2026.
What remains unknown
At the time of this update, UKMTO had not published complete information on the condition of every crew member, the extent of the damage or any possible pollution. Responsibility for the attack had also not been officially attributed.
For that reason, AppiSToS is not treating later reports on numbers rescued or missing as confirmed until they are reflected in a new official update.
Why it matters
Sohar lies on a critical shipping corridor close to the approaches to the Strait of Hormuz. The incident adds to heightened threats to commercial shipping across the wider area, but this specific notice alone does not establish a general suspension of navigation.
Further developments: this article will be updated when UKMTO or the Omani authorities issue a verified assessment.
