Novaya Gazeta announces closure, with departure set for 9 November
The editorial team says it will leave its premises and shut down its servers. It attributes the decision to pressure from Russian authorities.

Novaya Gazeta announced on 30 October 2026 that it is ending its operations. Its original editorial statement, published in Russian and English, sets 9 November for leaving its Moscow premises and shutting down its servers.
The statement confirms the newspaper’s own decision. Claims that Russian authorities and security services forced it to close are allegations by the editorial team, not an independently established judicial or administrative finding.
The team says it received an eviction notice and that its reader-donation platform was disconnected, depriving it of funding. It also describes publication restrictions and proceedings against colleagues, attributing these to coordinated state pressure.
In a postscript, the editorial team announces one final issue ahead of its scheduled departure and server shutdown on 9 November. ERTnews also reports the decision and that closure date.
