Greece’s Health Ministry presented upgrade work at Metsovo Health Centre and the emergency department of Ioannina’s G. Hatzikosta General Hospital on 15 October 2026, marking the inauguration of the renovated facilities.

The two projects

For Metsovo Health Centre, the announcement describes energy and functional upgrades and renovation, with a total budget of €1,062,373.38.

At Hatzikosta hospital, infrastructure upgrades, modernisation and layout changes have a budget of €984,998.41, financed through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, according to the ministry.

These are announced project budgets, not a new cash benefit for patients. The minister presents improved patient flow and shorter waits as objectives; the release does not provide measured waiting-time outcomes or figures for new recruitment.

What was announced for Zagori

During his visit to EKAV in Zagori, the minister said the area would have an ambulance available on a 24-hour basis. This is recorded as a ministerial commitment: the announcement gives no start date, shift schedule or staffing figures establishing that full round-the-clock operation is already in place.
