Two later local reports say the stations reopened shortly before 14:00. The operator's page was not directly accessible during the newer check.

Two later local reports, from Politic and Parallaxi Magazine, say the five stations returned to normal operation shortly before 14:00, after the demonstrations ended.

The Thessaloniki Metro operating page returned a 403 error during the newer direct check, while an older indexed extract still displayed the previous status. The reopening is therefore attributed to the two later reports and is not presented as direct confirmation by the operator. The closure has been removed from the active Alert because it can no longer be established as an active restriction.

Earlier update — implementation of the closure

Updated 21.10.2026 · 13:00, Athens time — What changed:

The Thessaloniki Metro's official operating page now displays an active “Degraded operation” notice and says service has been temporarily suspended at Dimokratias, Venizelou, Agias Sofias, Sintrivani and Panepistimio stations on police instructions.

The five stations remain closed and trains pass without stopping. No reopening time has been announced. This confirms implementation of the measure announced for 09:00; it is not a shutdown of the entire network.

Earlier update — advance notice of the measure

The Thessaloniki Metro operator has announced the temporary closure of five stations from 09:00 on Wednesday 21 October 2026. Its official notice says the measure follows instructions from the police authorities.

Affected stations

  • Dimokratias
  • Venizelou
  • Agias Sofias
  • Sintrivani
  • Panepistimio

These stations will be closed to passengers and trains will pass through without stopping. The notice does not announce a shutdown of the entire network.

Reopening time still pending

The official notice checked on 20 October gives no end time. The operator says further announcements will follow. Reopening of these five stations at any particular hour should therefore not be assumed.

The instruction concerns 21 October, not a closure already in force on 20 October. Passengers planning to use these stations should allow for the scheduled restriction and check the operator's latest update before travelling.
