Skirts, dresses and blazers: six ideas from daytime to evening
Different silhouettes, comfortable shoes and small changes that give familiar pieces a new feel.

1. Midi skirt and fine knit
Pair a plain midi skirt with a knit in a similar shade. A small front tuck defines the waist without requiring a close fit. Flat ankle boots make this an easy all-day combination.
2. Pleated skirt and simple top
The skirt texture can be the focal point. Add a plain cotton top and short cardigan. Keep the rest simple with trainers or ballet flats that fit comfortably.
3. Straight dress and open cardigan
A dress with few decorative details changes with a cardigan of a different length. Add a thin belt over the dress if you wish. Try it without a belt too; no single silhouette is compulsory for any body.
4. Blazer, jeans and plain top
A lightly structured blazer gives jeans a polished feel. The top can be white, cream or black. One small piece of jewellery is enough when the blazer has a strong colour.
5. Wide trousers and shirt
Choose a shirt long enough to wear tucked or untucked. Rolled sleeves and flat shoes create a relaxed silhouette. Check that the trouser hems do not drag when you walk.
6. Plain dress and denim jacket
A denim jacket makes a dress more casual. For an evening out, swap it for a light blazer and a smaller bag. The idea works with pieces you already own, without a specific brand or compulsory purchase.
