Kentridge at the National Archaeological Museum: 30 October to 24 January
Imitate the Sleep of Stones brings contemporary works into dialogue with antiquities, drawing on Orpheus and Eurydice.

William Kentridge’s Imitate the Sleep of Stones runs at Athens’ National Archaeological Museum from 30 October 2026 to 24 January 2027, according to the museum’s official programme. Burcu Fikretoğlu curates the exhibition.
The South African artist places contemporary works among antiquities, exploring the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. The route includes rust-coloured steel figures, paper silhouettes, drawings and a diorama with moving images.
Antiquities include a vessel showing Orpheus playing a lyre, ivory-lyre finds from the Menidi tholos tomb, and a cup on loan from the Acropolis Museum. The exhibition is artistically connected with Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, directed by Kentridge at the Greek National Opera.
The Culture Ministry published its opening announcement on 30 October. The exhibition dates are separately confirmed by the museum; the release does not establish free admission or special opening hours.
