Lefkada: summer shores, town and Karya
An island connected by road to mainland Greece, for a holiday mixing the sea with inland routes.

Road access changes the plan
A floating bridge connects Lefkada with the mainland, making planning different from a holiday dependent on a ferry. Having a car does not mean driving constantly. Choose a base near the area you most want to explore and keep some days light on travel. Flexibility also means being able to stay longer in one place.
Town as an introduction
Lefkada town’s colourful buildings and lanes deserve a dedicated walk. Set aside the first or last day to explore without pressure. If staying elsewhere, avoid making town only a brief stop on arrival. A proper walk and meal add an urban side to the island holiday.
Karya and local tradition
Karya is associated with Lefkada’s textile tradition and offers an inland stop. Combine the walk with time to learn about local products. Ladopita and Lefkada salami are characteristic foods mentioned by the official travel guide. Asking about producers and origins makes the food part of the visit more specific.
Coastal days with room to adapt
Share the trip between town, the interior and your chosen coast. Our suggestion is one day for each, plus a fourth for returning or resting. The Porto Katsiki photograph shows part of the western coast; check current access and conditions before visiting. Consider the final approach to any beach, not just driving time.
