ELSTAT: national inflation reaches 5.0% in September
The CPI rose 2.1% from August; this national measure differs from the harmonised index.

Annual national inflation reached 5.0% in September 2026, according to ELSTAT’s release of 9 October.
Monthly and annual readings
The general Consumer Price Index rose 2.1% from August. Average inflation over October 2025–September 2026 was 3.6%.
The 5.0% reading concerns the national CPI, rather than the harmonised index used for European comparisons. An average index also does not describe every household’s individual basket. Monthly and annual changes compare different periods and should not be added together.
