Vasilika lower-secondary school in Thessaloniki will remain closed on Monday 12 October 2026 by decision of Thermi mayor Theodoros Papadopoulos. The decision was announced on 11 October after plaster fell from the ceiling of an art classroom on Friday 9 October.

ERT News reported that a 14-year-old pupil was slightly injured. The municipality confirms that he has returned home.

A fresh inspection on Monday morning

Engineers from Thermi municipality's Technical Services and Urban Planning departments will return to the school complex to investigate the plaster detachment and the conditions for a safe reopening.

The municipality says Friday's initial inspection found no cracks or signs of moisture at the affected spot or in neighbouring classrooms. This is the municipality's account of the initial inspection; the further investigation is still pending.

Reopening date remains unspecified

The announcement sets the closure for 12 October but does not say when pupils will return or provide a final technical finding on the cause of the incident.
