Finland’s STT to end news and picture services on 31 March 2027
The decision was announced on 29 October. Services continue until the end of March; corporate press-release distribution will remain in operation.

Finnish agency STT announced on 29 October 2026 that its board had decided to end its news and picture agency operations on 31 March 2027, following completion of restructuring negotiations.
Today’s development is the board decision. Customers will continue receiving services as normal until the end of March 2027, the company says. STT presented the restructuring plan in September.
Estimated employment impact
The negotiations covered 95 permanent employees. The company estimates that 89 positions will be lost, including 68 journalistic roles. Around six employees in other roles are expected to be offered continued employment. In addition, 30 fixed-term contracts or framework agreements will end. These are the announced restructuring estimates, not a completed count of departures.
What continues
STT Communication Services, which distributes corporate press releases and employs seven people, will continue without changes affecting staff or customers, according to the statement.
STT attributes its decision to sustained losses and failure to secure a sufficiently broad ownership base committed to developing the business. It is also exploring commercial use of its archives and technology under development. These are the company’s explanations and plans.
