Organic products: provisional EU deal on simpler certification
The new thresholds concern specific small sellers, not a general exemption for producers. Final adoption is still required.

Council and Parliament negotiators announced a deal on 20 October 2026. For small sellers of unpackaged organic products directly to consumers, it would raise certification-exemption thresholds from €20,000 to €40,000 and from 5,000 to 10,000 kg. Turnover is calculated as a five-year average.
IFOAM Organics Europe welcomed the agreement and the planned extension of equivalence recognition for 11 non-EU countries until 31 December 2036.
The new thresholds do not apply yet: endorsement and formal adoption by both institutions are still needed. No Greek subsidy is announced.
