Dry skin: adjusting care as temperatures fall
Short lukewarm showers and moisturising damp skin are among the AAD’s recommendations.

Dry skin may benefit from gentler care rather than more products. The AAD recommends lukewarm water and showers lasting five to ten minutes.
Timing moisturiser
Pat dry and apply fragrance-free moisturiser while skin is still damp. Protect hands from cold and prolonged water exposure.
Avoid vigorous rubbing and irritating fabrics; sun protection remains relevant. Persistent dryness, cracks or bleeding call for a dermatologist’s assessment rather than repeated cosmetic experiments. This is a care guide, not a diagnosis.
