Greece’s Ministry of National Economy and Finance announced on 5 October 2026 a call for proposals to improve the energy performance of public buildings. According to the ministry, funding comes from the NSRF Environment and Climate Change 2021–2027 programme.

Who is covered

The announcement names ministries, municipalities and public- or private-law entities supervised by central government bodies. Each eligible body may submit one proposal of up to €5 million excluding VAT. This is funding for public-sector projects, rather than a payment to homeowners.

What can change

Interventions include insulation, more efficient windows, electrical and mechanical systems, lighting, renewable energy and energy management systems. The ministry highlights energy-intensive buildings with cultural and historical significance.

The target includes energy class B, or a higher class where feasible, with inspections before and after the work. The stated alternatives are renovation that saves 30%–60% of primary energy or a reduction in emissions of at least 30%.

What the release does not establish

The release does not specify an application deadline, the total funding available or a complete list of required documents. These need confirmation in the official call. Its announcement does not mean that a specific project has been approved or funding paid out.
