Mykonos, Tinos, Sifnos, Patmos, Paxos and Kalymnos are included in the Environment Ministry funding call. Completion of the works is the next step.

The Environment and Energy Ministry announced €6.4 million for restoration of six closed uncontrolled waste-disposal sites on 12 October 2026, through its Sectoral Development Programme.

Which areas are covered

The funding call covers the municipalities of Mykonos, Tinos, Sifnos, Patmos, Paxos and Kalymnos. The ministry says all six sites have obtained the environmental permits needed for restoration.

Funding and completion

The decision concerns a call to finance restoration works; the sites have already ceased operating. The release gives neither a completion deadline nor a funding breakdown by municipality.

The ministry estimates that after completion, annual fines of €480,000 relating to these sites will cease. Both the amount and the expected removal of fines are attributed to the ministry; they do not establish that the works are complete or that the fines have already been lifted.
