The Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection announced on 29 October that it had completed agreements with all 13 regional governors to transfer 158 public works machines. The contracted procurement is worth €19.1 million, is financed by the European Investment Bank and forms part of the AIGIS programme.

The new milestone is completion of the transfer agreements across all regions. The ministry says equipment is being delivered in stages; this does not establish that every machine has already been received or entered operational service.

What the equipment is intended for

The procurement includes excavators and loaders, bulldozers and graders, lifting equipment, snow-clearing vehicles and compact wheeled or tracked loaders. Intended tasks include opening road access, clearance, flood-prevention works and repairing natural-disaster damage.

The published allocation includes, among others, 21 machines for Thessaly, 17 for Central Macedonia, 15 for the Ionian Islands, 15 for the North Aegean and 12 each for Attica, the Peloponnese and Crete. This is equipment for regional authorities, not a cash benefit for residents.

Separate contracting process for 37 water tankers

The release also envisages 37 additional water tankers with a capacity of 10,000 litres, at an estimated €8.26 million. Their contracting process is still under way. They are not counted as part of the 158 machines or presented as already delivered.
